  17. and  are protected by United States copyright law and international treaty
  18. provisions. You may not lease, sell, or rent copies of the Software;

  20. for any other purpose than that for which they were intended. Title
  21. and copyrights to the Software and any copy made by you remain
  22. with Smith-Southwestern. 
  23. Unauthorized copying of the Software, or failure to comply with the 
  24. above restrictions will result in legal prosecution with civil or 
  25. criminal penalties.

  27. Note: Although these screen savers will run on systems capable of 
  28. displaying only 256 color (Super VGA or SVGA), the quality of 
  29. display is enhanced on systems capable of supporting 
  30. 16-bit ("thousands of colors") or 24-bit ("millions 
  31. of colors"). The quality of display also depends 
  32. on the resolution at which your system is set; the higher the 
  33. resolution, e.g. 1024 x 768 as opposed to 640 x 480, the higher 
  34. quality of display. A good display resolution is 800 x 600 with 
  35. 16-bit color.

  76. HOW TO INSTALL SCREEN SAVER:
  77.     MACINTOSH:
  78.     1. OPEN THE CD-ROM
  79.     2. READ THE FILE "README" (DOUBLECLICK)
  80.     3. COPY THE FILE "TAHOE" INTO THE FOLDER "CONTROL PANELS",
  81.       THAT IS ALLOCATED INSIDE THE SYSTEM FOLDER ON YOUR HARD DRIVE
  82.     5. RESTART YOUR MAC
  83.     6. CUSTOMIZE THE SCREEN SAVER BY CHOOSING TAHOE
  84.       IN THE CONTROL PANEL  INSIDE THE APPLE MENU

  86.     WINDOWS:
  87.     1. INSERT THE CD-ROM IN THE HARD DRIVE
  88.     2. CLICK ON THE INSTALL ICON
  89.     OR
  90.     1. INSERT THE CD-ROM IN THE HARD DRIVE
  91.     2. EXIT FROM THE INSTALLER WINDOW
  92.     3. OPEN THE CD-ROM BY CLICKING ON IT WITH THE RIGHT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE

  94.     5. DOUBLE-CLICK ON THE INSTALLER.EXE FILE

  102. HOW TO CUSTOMIZE THE SCREEN SAVER SPEED:
  103. Enter a value on the field that appears with the first 2 images of the screen saver. The range is from 1 to 99; the higher is the value the faster is the screen saver.
  104. Default value is 8. The screen saver will keep the chosen speed until it will be changed.

  107. Troubleshooting
  108.     Many users of this product are comfortable in diagnosing 
  109.     and solving common problems on their own. We have included 
  110.     some helpful hints to make this easier.
  111.

  116. 1. General
  117.    1.1 The screen saver fails to install.
  118.  
  119.     If the Screen Saver install program (Windows) fails to
  120.     function correctly from the disk, it is either
  121.     defective or damaged.
  122.     The only possibility is to order a new one to Smith-Southwestern.
  123.  
  124.    1.2 Are there any known incompatibilities?
  125.  
  126.     Customers have informed us that they have had problems 
  127.     running this scren saver program on systems networked using 
  128.     Novell NetWare (TM).  There are no current solutions 
  129.     for this.
  130.  
  131.     After Dark¬ has built-in incompatibilities with 
  132.     our product. Since After Dark¬ is a DOS resident 
  133.     program, it will try to engage even while a Windows 
  134.     screen saver is running.  The best fix is simply to 
  135.     disable After Dark¬ while you have our screen 
  136.     saver enabled (Windows).
  137.  
  138.    1.3 The Screen Saver seems to foul up long printouts or other 
  139.        batch jobs on the computer. 
  140.  
  141.     If you observe this problem, disable the Screen Saver 
  142.     before beginning the batch job or long printout.  
  143.     Some software applications and/or hardware platforms 
  144.     have conflicts with screen saver applications.
  145.  
  146.    1.4 The Screen Saver seems to take a long time to recover when 
  147.        I move the mouse to try to begin using my computer again.  
  148.            
  149.     The image decompression software (Disk) is very
  150.     memory-intensive. In order to properly return control to
  151.     the system, that    memory must be deallocated. 
  152.     On some older machines, this can be a slower process.
  153.     While changing from one to another image recovering is not possible.
  154.  
  155.    1.5 The Screen Saver kicks out after only one or two images. 
  156.  
  157.     Most likely, the mouse has moved imperceptibly. The Screen Saver
  158.     is particularly sensitive to mouse movements.
  159.     We recommend that during an initial test run of the Screen Saver
  160.     you run it with the mouse resting upside 
  161.     down to avoid motion.

  165. 2. Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP
  166.     2.1 I get a message that reads "Warning! Memory Low!" scrolling 
  167.         across the screen.  
  168.  
  169.     Verify that Windows is managing your swap space for
  170.     you, and that the hard disk drive is not full. Windows
  171.     uses a dynamic swapfile configuration based on the
  172.     local hard disk.
  173.  
  174.     2.2 The image appears pixelated and rough-edged.
  175.  
  176.     The images in the the Screen Saver are designed for an 
  177.     optimum display size of  800x600 or higher.
  178.     If you are trying to maximize Windows functionality,
  179.     set the display at whatever feels most comfortable for your
  180.     everyday operations.
  181.  
  182.      2.3 Many of the colors in the image are missing.
  183.  
  184.     Verify that your display settings are at least 256-color.
  185.     Look in the CONTROL PANEL, under the DISPLAY icon, to view
  186.     your display properties window.  In the display properties
  187.     window, click on the SETTINGS tab and check your color palette
  188.     settings.  If your display settings are set at 16-color you
  189.     will not be able to view the images correctly.

  193. 5. MacOS
